At Wadson’s Farm our sheep are Dorpers, a South African breed of domestic sheep. The breed is well adapted to survive in the arid extensive regions of South Africa. It has high fertility and maternal instinct, combined with high growth rates and hardiness. They are an easy to care for animal that produces a short light coat of wool & hair that is shed in the late spring and summer. By virtue of their shedding they produce less lanolin, the heavy mutton taste in lamb. This allows our lamb to win about any taste test it enters! Our racks of lamb were enjoyed by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II at a dinner at Government House during her visit in November 2009.
